Vanessa Paisley

“Use your difference to make a difference.” (Tayo Rockson)

I’m an interculturalist by birth, upbringing, education and life! I was born in Tanzania, grew up in the UK, lived in Austria for over 20 years and am now back in the place where I grew up, in a small town just north of London. I studied German and love the language and the literature. Later in life I decided to do a Masters in Communication Studies as I realized that miscommunication was not just down to language when working across cultures. These days I feel 50% British, 50% Austrian and 100% European. I have 2 bilingual kids. I also know all the ins and outs of being different, being an expat, not belonging, integrating and I am at best when facilitating groups of differences! I like to be on the move, can’t stand to be caught up in too many boring routines, partly the reason why I’m self-employed! I love art and reading and listening to our diverse Spotify Family Mix which currently is a mixture of Max Richter, Erasure and Stormzy. I truly believe that story connects humanity and you can find a lot in tales, whether it be The Arabian Nights, the Bhagavad Gita or Brother Grimm fairy tales. In my job, I am the mediator and see things from 360 degrees. I encourage people to find out about the world – how are you supposed to manage in a global world if you don’t know anything about it?
