Silke Wassum

"I'll always find a way."

I thoroughly enjoy developing people, to see them grow and thrive and to support them in their endeavour to develop their full potential. My main focus has been education, in particular adult education, although I also teach children. It’s been my pleasure to teach children and adults and to coach them in their very specific situation in their life. Apart from languages and adult education, I have a focus on intercultural learning and conflict resolution.

Professional background

  • With my MA in Education Science and Social Anthropology I followed my dream to live in South Africa. I worked at universities, for the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) and in the field of fundraising for an NGO. With 10 years of experience in South Africa, I returned to Germany in 2011. I promoted exchange projects between Germany and South Africa within local government at university level and in the NGO sector.
  • I obtained my Intercultural Trainer Certificate from the Friedrich Schiller University Jena in 2014, followed by my Intercultural Mediator Certificate from the same institution in 2016. With my high interest in cross-border family conflict, I specialised in this field with another training course delivered by internationally recognised MIKK e.V. in the same year.
  • In recent years, I mainly delivered government funded German courses for different levels, ranging from literacy classes to intermediate level for a number of German training providers. I also managed a project that included career coaching for refugees.

Experience as coach or trainer

I have 5 years of experience as a trainer, mainly teaching German as a foreign language and English with some experience as an intercultural trainer and career coach within the German labour market.

Additional work experience

I gathered some work experience in the field of development cooperation, within South African and German government institutions and at South African and German universities, eg. I contributed to a successful funding proposal for a joint project between African universities and Oldenburg University.

What people say about me

“I am very happy to hear frequently that  my former students and coachees enjoyed interacting with me in my coaching sessions and participating in my courses stating something like: “You were the best teacher I ever had”.
