Aelita is a seasoned intercultural trainer, consultant, executive coach and speaker with close to 30 years of experience. She has worked with more than 1000 individuals, families, and corporate teams from over 40 countries spanning 6 continents, to help them become more culturally competent. Originally from Toronto, Canada, one of the most multicultural cities in the world, Aelita grew up in a Latvian Canadian household, learning to appreciate various cultural perspectives. It also ignited a life-long passion to learn about other cultures. Aelita now lives in Hong Kong, a place she has called home for more than 30 years. Although specializing in the Hong Kong and Chinese cultures, she conducts programs throughout Asia, Europe and North America. She travels extensively both for business and pleasure. To date, she has been to over 50 countries, many of them multiple times.

  • Conduct programs throughout East and Southeast Asia including Hong Kong, mainland China, Macau, South Korea, Japan, Taiwan, the Philippines, Vietnam, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, and Indonesia, as well as Europe and North America
  • Participants have come from variety of industries including aviation, banking & finance, chemical & related manufacturing, clothing & apparel, computer software, cosmetics, electronics, engineering services, fast moving consumer goods, food & beverage, gaming, health care products, housewares & accessories, insurance, retailing, pharmaceuticals, publishing, telecommunications, tobacco, tourism & hospitality, and wood product manufacturing.
  • Work closely with the College of Business at City University of Hong Kong, creating and delivering predeparture cultural awareness seminars, designing thought provoking assignments, mentoring business students, as well as debriefing them once they return from their international experiences to solidify their learning. Culture specific programs were developed for Hong Kong students going to Australia, Cambodia, Canada, Fiji, India, Laos, Mongolia, Nepal, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sri Lanka.

Additional work experience

  • Managing Director and Co-Founder of Yen & Martinsons Limited, a company dedicated to facilitating trade between the Baltic States and Asia. Among other projects, organized and hosted multi industry trade delegations to Asia, coached managers on culturally appropriate business practices, operated a jewellery retail business in Riga, Latvia, and managed a multi-ethnic, multi-lingual team mostly virtually.
  • Visiting Professor, Groupe Ecole Superieur de Commerce et de Management in France. Designed and delivered a course in International Human Resources to French undergraduate students.
  • Academic, City University of Hong Kong, College of Business. Duties included lecturing on a variety of business topics and doing research in expatriate adjustment.
  • Various management roles in finance in Canada.
